It's about 3,85 meters long and about 1,20 m wide. The well preserved grave has been transferred to a small park, a few meters away from its original location (ca. 53.786102, 8.6745650).
There had been more ritual buildings close to the earth burial:
a younger megalithic tomb and a cult pit and an even younger small stone circle, which all were completely destroyed. However these disappeared buildings demonstrate the neolithic continuity of the cult place.
The earth grave was built at the time of the oldest dolmens in northern Europe. Its paving-stones are very similar to the floor at megalithic tombs. And the grave additions are also nearly identical with those of the megalithic burials. The pottery also shows that the Gudendorf grave belongs to the same neolithic population as the dolmen: the West Group of the Trichterbecherkultur (Funnel Beaker Culture).
Due to its inconspicuousness this grave type has been rather seldom discovered and excavated. And even more seldom such graves have been preserved. So the neolithic earth burial at Gudendorf has a considerable rarity value.
