Butler, in his Dartmoor Atlas of Antiquities, describes it as:
"A splendid survival of a prehistoric homestead.... It may have been refurbished at some more recent period as the field has been reused and a later bank and ditch constructed around the site. A large hut (9.5 m) with some massive stones in its wall opens into a triangular enclosure. The wall opposite the hut is the reave reinforced with large slabs. A gap beside a cross-set slab near the south corner of this wall is no doubt the original entrance into the enclosure. The outer field to the west, obviously cleared of surface stone, was originally divided by a bank which was later partly demolished and the stones piled in the centre. The circular bank of a smaller hut (c.6.5 m) lies on the opposite side of the reave."
