I'm pleased to announce the winners of the September 2010 photo competition. As the top two were very close, and one of our winners is too modest to accept his prize we have extended to four winners this month.
Joint 1st Prize: The Captain (Martyn) with Down Tor
Joint 1st Prize: Hamish Fenton with Mam Tor
2nd Prize: Martin L with D50 Noordsleen
3rd Prize: Chester1960 with Five Wells
View the photos and more Highly Commended entries:

Joint 1st Prize: The Captain (Martyn) with Down Tor

Joint 1st Prize: Hamish Fenton with Mam Tor

2nd Prize: Martin L with D50 Noordsleen

3rd Prize: Chester1960 with Five Wells

Photos can be scored for visual or archaeological merit or both. Congratulations all, as well as the kudos of having won out of all those photos, you have all won books from our Online Shop.

There are some more Highly Commended photos with good scores that I thought you'd like to see:

JimllMixit with Cote de Sauvage, Quiberon

Widnes_archaeologist with Castle Ditch Eddisbury

Rubis with Vaon dolmen

Just as a recap, each month all the photos submitted to the Megalithic Portal have a chance to be voted on by you, the visitors. In August there were around 3000 photos submitted so well done for sticking with it!
There is still some time to vote on the October and November competitions and have a browse of the latest photos anytime you like.

Feel free to vote or comment on any that particularly catch your eye, either for visual or archaeological merit. A vote from any person will start off the scoring - also remember that you are allowed to vote for your own photos once if you would like to put them forward.

More details on the monthly photo competitions are here.

Thanks for all the Votes, a surprise to get a win two months in a row, it gives me trouble on what to choose from the fantastic selection on the Free book list in the megalithic portal shop.

I'm not going to stop uploading photos, but would like to rule myself out of winning any prizes in the next couple of rounds of the competition.

thanks

Hamish (h_fenton)

There's a pleasant surprise! Thanks to all who voted. I guess I have to put my success down to two things, right place, right time. The first, I had some influence on, by visiting this wonderful site, a fair old walk from anywhere out on Dartmoor. The second is just luck, and for much of my time out here the sky was grey and overcast, and having taken all my pictures in the dull, I sat in the circle having something to eat and planning my route before starting out on the return trip. And then the clouds parted, and this glorious low sunlight lit everything up with its golden glow, meaning a complete change of plans so as to get a whole new se of pictures!

Again, thanks to all who voted.
