Hemmelmark Steingrab (2) submitted by krautrock : Prinz Heinrich ,the brother of the last German Kaiser built his Mausoleum on the top of this Steingrab. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Prinz Heinrich, the brother of the last German Kaiser, built his Mausoleum on the top of the remains of this Steingrab. Beneath the Mausoleum you will find the old Stones.

At this location there are two megalithic tombs: Hemmelmark II (Sprockhoff 81) and Hemmelmark III (Sprockhoff 82)

Hemmelmark II (Sprockhoff 81):
This is a nearly complete, but partly extremely overgrown chambered-longbarrow measuring 44m by 7m. At least 66 (possibly all) enclosure stones were preserved when Sprockhoff and Schwieger examined the site [1]. Unfortunately the earthwork is eroded and (partly) covered many of them. Due to this and the undergrowth I could not find all of them during visit in December 2010. The chamber is just to the SW of the Mausoleums' entrance, but hardly visible/accessible in dense bushes/brambles.
So currently we do not have any photos of the well preserved cross-lying rectangular chamber of Sprockhoff 81. Only the capstone once was split in two halves (now repaired) otherwise the chamber is perfectly preserved except for the orthostat of the SE end. As it was not detectable during Sprockhoff's examination it is either covered or robbed. The mausoleum was placed into the central part of the long barrow.

Hemmelmark III (Sprockhoff 82):
is a large pentagonal dolmen chamber covered by two capstones. It is situated near the SE edge of the Mausoleum only 4 m away from Sprockhoff 81 SE long side enclosure stones. By the time of the first examination several upright-set slabs were preserved, subdividing the chamber into at least two parts. Similar subdivisions are known from several other funnel-beaker locations. Nowadays the chamber is halfway filled with earth, but a gap (missing dry-walling) between orthostats and capstone in the North facilitates a view inside. The massive northern part below the northern capstone has a rectangular ground-plan, while the SE edge is rounded, as the southern orthostat in the east is set in an angle of approx 45° to its neighbour in the North . The chamber nowadays is heavily overgrown on all side except for the North. An enormous tree is growing just beside it in the SE.

At this location there are two megalithic tombs:

Hemmelmark II (Sprockhoff 81),
regarding the megaliths this is a nearly complete, but partly extremely overgrown chambered-longbarrow measuring 44m by 7m. The mausoleum was placed into the central part of the long barrow.

Hemmelmark III (Sprockhoff 82),
