Drizzlecombe
Drizzlecombe submitted by TheCaptain : The spectacular Drizzlecombe complex of stone rows, longstones, cairns, circles and cists, with the significant sites marked on. Seen here from the west, on the slopes of Eastern Tor. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The complex of small stone circles, long rows, standing stones, cists and cairns located in this dramatic site is one of the most interesting in all of Europe.

The south-east ring, consisting of thirteen small stones, is 10.4 (34 feet) across, and a row of stones extends south-west for some 90.4m (296 feet) before culminating in a towering 4.3m (14-foot) pillar.

Just beyond this pillar is the Giant's Basin, an enormous 21.6m (71-foot) diameter, 3m (10-foot) high damaged cairn.

Measurements of distances between the elements at this site reveals ratios between them that suggest intent during construction. The evidence that two of the single rows were in the process of being converted into double rows but abandoned adds further to the mystery of the site.

Access: A 3km drive and walk from Sheepstor.

Update September 2019: For more information, see:
Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW): the Drizzlecombe Ceremonial Complex and Drizzlecombe Ceremonial Complex (Photos 1);
The Stone Rows of Great Britain:
Drizzlecombe 1,
Drizzlecombe 2, and
Drizzlecombe 3.

The complex is scheduled as Historic England List ID 1014145 (Three stone alignments, 15 cairns, a cist, a partially enclosed stone hut circle settlement and a small clapper bridge at Drizzle Combe).

For more information on the individual sites within the complex, please refer to 'nearby sites' below.

Condition:4
Ambience:5
Access:3-4
This has to be one of the best prehistoric sites in Britian, easily the best on Dartmoor.
There is so much here ,stone rows ,cairns, kists and a standing stone. The only thing missing is a circle, but there is a good one near by at Brisworthy.
Well worth a visit by anyone with even the slightest interest in Prehistory as this will give them plenty to see and probably make them look further afield for more.

Condition|Ambience|Access in my opinion is 453. 4 for condition I think is correct as it's a fine example of a row and I didn't notice anything wrong with the stones. It seemed to be pretty uniform and upright. 5 for ambience like the other row of this pair slightly over to the east although it's subjective if you want to keep 4 then fine :) Personally standing by this stone which btw towers above me and looking around at the other row and the various other standing stones in the area within the glorious landscape I wouldn't give it anything less than 4 or 5. 3 for access as it's 2 miles out.
