Balvraid Farm Cup Marked Stone
Balvraid Farm Cup Marked Stone submitted by uisdean : Cup marked stone at Balvraid Farm, (NG 84081667). (Vote or comment on this photo)
Cup and Ring marks in the Highlands. A cup marked stone slab, 3feet 9 inches long and 2 feet wide, found in 1881 on a pile of rocks on a small rise in the middle of a field between the road and the river near Balvraid in Glen Beag, Glenelg (NG 84081667).

There are some 30 cup marks, many partially obscured by moss, and two connected by a groove. It is likely that the stones were cleared from the field, and the cup marked slab is unlikely to be in its original position.
J Romilly Allen, who visited the site in 1882, was told by the local farmer that the cup-marks were well known to the natives of the Glen, and were known locally as " Fairies' Footmarks. (See Allen, J R (1882 ) 'Notes on some undescribed stones with cup markings in Scotland', Proc Soc Antiq Scot, 16, 1881-2, 119-20.)
The site appears in the Canmore database as NG81NW 2
