The Long Stone (Minions)
The Long Stone (Minions) submitted by thecaptain : Long Tom, near Minions. Picture from about 1980. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This stone is situated just off the main road 800 metres South West of Minions (on the road towards the A38). It is likely to have once been a menhir that was then Christianised by carving a cross on its face.

The stone stands alone, often amongst sheep roaming the moor, an impressive 285cm (H) x 60 (W) x 30 (D), complete with mark on the back and carved cross.

Visit in 2009.

What a fantastic stone this is. As for the Hurlers, it is decades since I was last here, and it is bigger and better shaped than I remember. It is 2.6 metres tall and very slender, and covered in some beautiful lichens. With the sun dropping down in the sky, the golden light on this stone is superb. Only problem is the vehicle tracks all around it, having churned up the grass of the moor. What is up with these people who seem to feel the need to mess everything up?
