Gobustan Rock Art submitted by kurgan : Ladies with Curved sticks - Gobustan Rock Art. Could this be a Stone Age ladies hockey club? It's most unlikely, however an explanation for the group of stick weilding ladies is called for. In petroglyphs else where men similarly carry curved sticks. These could be for hunting, or perhaps used in warfare...or possibly in a game. Bearing in mind ancient references to women warriors in the Cauc... (2 comments)

Ooops Sorry.

I've just noted your comment.

Gobustan is one of many fascinating and I believe very important sites in Azerbaijan.

Are you resident there?

Gobustan
This is main site for the rock shelters and petroglyphs that is sort of set up for tourists, with a museum, roped off sections and signs warning you not to leave the path because of snakes. There is also lots of further rock art and rock shelters on two nearby hills to the north and south. As with other rock art sites that are tourist attractions, some of the petroglyphs have been vandalised by being scratched or painted in modern times so visitors can see them more easily.

The co-ordinates for this site are:

N 40.11178
E 049.37827
Elevation +92m
this is a GPS co-ordinate from just behind the museum.
