St Collen's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy : St Collen’s Well hides very effectively on moorland accessed from high up on the Old Horseshoe Pass Road to the northeast of Llangollen. The Monk’s Way passed by here …. back when the monks made their way over the pass to Valle Crucis Abbey. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Denbighshire (Sir Ddinbych).
St Collen was a 6th century saint of Welsh royal blood. During his youth he is said to have killed the mighty pagan chieftain Bras (or was it a giantess who may, or may not, have symbolised paganism?)

Legends vary but after the battle St Collen washed the blood from his sword at the spring which was forever after known as St Collen’s Well, before venturing south to learn more saintly ways of fighting for his faith. Thus skilled he returned to the area and set up his cell on the site now occupied by the Llangollen Parish Church.

St Collen's Well submitted by KiwiBetsy : For those well hunters with a bloody minded determination it is findable but only just and only with the landowners permission and assistance. The wells reputation for healing warts is still known and confirmed by a few. Protected by a large piece of granite a pool of fresh water wells up before meandering off down the hillside on a course marked only by slightly lusher vegetation. We were to...
