Anta da Barrosa
Anta da Barrosa submitted by Alta-Falisa : Road description. Signposted all the way from road N.13. Stands at the Eastern end of the town of Vila Praia da Ancora, on a lawn, below trees; the nearest houses are about 50 m away. The best time for a photo would be early morning, as from about 10.00, it is in the shade. Anta (in Portuguese proper) and Dólmen (a neologism) are synonymous and used indifferently. (3 comments)

Many dolmens in Portugal would bear ancient (obsolete) names like "Casa do Mouro" and the likes. Most refer to a pre-Reconquista popular understanding, and some were revived in the 19th century, at the height of Romanticism. They may be useful for scholars wishing to consult National or local Archives, which is beyond the reach of the Megalithic Portal. I think we should abandon them and keep only the names mentioned on the spot. Here we have "Anta da Barrosa".
Anta is synomymous to Dólmen.
