rrmoser visited on 16th Jun 2018 - their rating: Cond: 4 Amb: 5 Access: 5 Usually these fusion sites do not work for but this one was an exception. The location majesty of the Dolmen and the church in ruins synergies well as a site. Perhaps the presence of teh church wall which substitutes for the berm of the original mound helps the ambiance of the site.

This is an interesting, remote site with a number of other prehistoric remains in the immediate vacinity. The coordinates for this site are 41.02337N and 7.44155W checked when I visited it in April 2010. The nearest town is Peso da Régua and the nearest village is Penela da Beira.

The "county" for this is Central Portugal, by all means - I've been there and talked to people...

Leaving Penela da Beira in the direction of Riodades, turn left on a hilltop, towards Castainço.

On that road you will have the Tujal Menhir, these two antas (Monte Penedono and Carvalhal) and two more (Dolmens da Lapinha 1 and 2), these two being 800m off-road, no footpath nor further indication.

This passage dolmen makes a pair with the Anta do Carvalhal just nearby, and is said to be part of a set of five more burial sites. It integrates itself nicely with the church (maybe 15th century?) which is abandoned since more than 70 years (the matter with portuguese indications is they don't have an reference point) and ruined, producing a very interesting whole.
