Money Pit cairn
Money Pit cairn submitted by Antonine : With Sharp Tor behind, 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
This site has often been referred to as a stone circle, but it is in fact the remains of a round barrow with a double retaining kerb circle with diameter of c.3m and interior cist. 2 partially destroyed and badly robbed stone rows descend form the circle at the NNW and the SSE.

Update August 2019: This platform cairn circle and cist is featured on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW) website - see their entry for the Yar Tor (Money Pit) Platform Cairn Circle and Cist.

The cairn and cist is also recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 442883 and scheduled as part of Historic England List ID 1003288 (Yar Tor stone row and adjacent cist). The Devon and Dartmoor HER also includes a record for MDV6460 (Cairn near Yar Tor stone row, Yartor Down).

The Stone Rows of Great Britain website includes a plan of the Yar Tor stone row, with the Money Pit Cairn at its south eastern end; see the Yar Tor Stone Row and Sea Views at Yar Tor.

Paraphrasing from Butler - An unusual little enclosure constructed by connecting two of the rock masses on the summit... foundations of a hut circle by the north rocks..... to the south a cairn has been built, now rearranged to form an elaborate shelter....

On the very summit of this tor is a ruined monument which I am not sure of - is it a cairn, or a round hut? The overall shape is circular, and if it were all covered in stones would be a straightforward cairn, but as it stands today, the entrance is via a clockwise curving passage around about one third or so of its south?west? - (sorry, didn't have my compass) perimeter, leading into the circular interior. A bit like a spiral, or horizontal snail shell, or a squashed figure '6''s, or '9''s mirror-image.
Next time I go up there I will take a piccy.
