The huge boulders could be moved and lifted by a few people with lever bars and rollers. The transport was best done on hard frozen ground. The capstones are hewn on the sides so that they could form a closed ceiling. There were gaps between the side stones. From this it can be seen that the cap stones were first brought into their final position on a mound of earth or wooden scaffolding and the side stones were fitted individually underneath. For this purpose, the gaps between the supporting stones were required as space for movement. All holes and gaps were wedged with rubble stones and sealed from the outside with clay. The whole complex has had a round mound over it.

Unfortunately, the megalithic tomb was very badly damaged by an illegal fire (the local press reported about it). I will take a few pictures in the next few days. The capstones were particularly badly damaged (which was already clearly visible in the photos of the local press). Whether it can be preserved or restored is currently being investigated. So far, those who started the fire have not been caught.

A case for the German administrators of the site:
The "Steinfeld Steingrab 2" is most likely a passage grave and not a chambered tomb. The relevant literature from the offical responsible archologist Dr. Tempel describes the large stone grave as a possible passage grave. The term "chambered tomb" is nowhere mentioned.
You can check this information here:

Indeed this might have been a passage grave, though as to our knowledge no evidence of a passage has been produced to date. Hence it is filed under more general type "chambered tomb".
