Ringmoor Down stone circle
Ringmoor Down stone circle submitted by TheCaptain : Ringmoor Down stone circle seen looking in an easterly direction. (Vote or comment on this photo)
On the top of the open moor that is Ringmoor Down, to the north of Brisworthy and its stone circle, this tremendous cairn circle and associated stone row are to be found, although they were "restored" in 1909, supposedly not very accurately.

The 13 metre diameter circle of 11 standing stones stand clear of the remains of the much smaller cairn in the centre. The stones stand up to a maximum of 1 metre tall, but the circle is positoned so that they stand out against the skyline, not only from the long stone row, but also many other positions around, although it can not be seen from the Brisworthy stone circle.

For more information about this kerbed cairn and its relationship to the Ringmoor Down stone row see:
The Stone Rows of Great Britain: Ringmoor Down Stone Row, which includes photographs of the row, the cairn and plans of this prehistoric landscape; and
Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks (PDW): see their entries for the Ringmoor Down Encircled Cairn and the Ringmoor Stone Row & Cairn Circle.

The cairn circle is also recorded as part of Pastscape Monument No. 438671 and as MDV3987 (Cairn in the parish of Sheepstor). The cairn is also scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1012246 (Stone alignment and terminal cairn with a retaining kerb on Ringmoor Down).

Ringmoor Down stone circle
Ringmoor Down stone circle submitted by mattimpey : Although you can not see them in this photograph a large group of flies were all buzzing together at the very centre of the stone circle. They were probably congregating above the read grass but spooky nonetheless.
