De Smäe Steingrab
De Smäe Steingrab submitted by Martin_L : Strange ambience at this remote location. From the East. April 2009 (Vote or comment on this photo)
"De Smäe" (translates as "The smithy") is a damaged neolithic chambered tomb, orientated approximately East-West. The site was examined by Sprockhoff and Schwieger in 1926. According to their reconstruction the tomb originally had 6 capstones and measured 9m by 3,5.

When comparing the situation in 2009 and 2011 with the drawing of Schwieger it becomes obvious, that two orthostats were robbed (or became covered) after 1926 and the structure is even more damaged nowadays. Nevertheless the site still is impressive. A secluded spot with great ambience. Access is only possibly outside growing season.

Remark 2009: Interestingly someone reused the tomb. There is a modern ring of boulders inside the chamber and someone planted daffodils on the remains of the barrow. I guess the landowner buried his dog there.
Remark 2011: The modern stone setting seems removed.

De Smäe Steingrab
De Smäe Steingrab submitted by Martin_L : Part of 'De Smäe' site viewed from the east in March 2018. Foreground left: probably a fallen capstone. Foreground right: a fallen orthostat. Centre: the stone centre left is an in situ orthostat. Only the upper third is visible. To the right of it a fallen capstone. The site is hard to access as it is situated in a field.
