Actually, the Feeringbury puddingstone is still there, and so is the old petrol pump that stands beside it. I visited the Manor yesterday, July 15th. The precise location is grid reference TL8637621552, at the end of a private path leading from the main road to the house. The stone is a dark brown ferruginous conglomerate, 100 x 70 x 40cm high, and well-embedded. The river Blackwater flows along the bottom of the Manor gardens, but the idea that the stone marked a ford here is very unlikely. There are signs along the banks even now saying 'Beware-deep water'. And Dr. Rudge didn't mention the equally-embedded and equally-large sandstone boulder even closer to the river within the gardens. (I've submitted a photo of the puddingstone to this page, but I may not have got the file size and resolution right - I'm not very good at doing that!)

Sorry to inform you folks. But for all intents and purposes this stone is one of the many stones reported by Rudge, that has since been buried or disappeared in the last 50 yrs. The petrol pump & buildings have also gone, and the local living in house knows nothing of it, so no trace.
figure some building / road works have taken place in between times.
