Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Denbighshire (Sir Ddinbych)

Ffynnon Sarah is dedicated to the 6th century Welsh bishop Saeran of Llanynys and was once on an ancient pilgrim track which today is a minor road between Derwen and Clawdd-newydd.

A spring bubbles up into a large rectangular bathing pool with stone steps leading down into it’s deep dark water and a channel out at the other end to allow the pool to overflow into a passing stream.

The water was used, at least up until Victorian times, to cure rheumatism and cancer. It was customary for sufferers to leave a pin as an offering. Mature trees and remoteness add to the ambience of a wonderful spot, which is now walled off for protection at the entrance to Braich Farm.

Ffynnon Sarah
Ffynnon Sarah submitted by TimPrevett : Parking for two cars, considerately, right outside the well, on a country lane. A well-maintained garden area leading to the well basin, outflow on the northern side into a stream. A few clouties and offerings left in the tree. A very lovely space to sit and ponder, have a picnic. A video of Ffynnon Sarah on my YouTube Channel Holy Well of Ffynnon Sara, near Derwen (Vote or comment on this photo)

Lovely little well, set back from the side of the road (there is a small sign) the road is rather narrow so don't go too fast otherwise you will miss it! Well worth a visit though
