Catrinm visited on 18th Sep 2023 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 3 Access: 4 Found this eventually with the grid ref and OS maps app... much more surrounded by undergrowth than previous pictures (Sep 23)

Anne T visited on 16th May 2019 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 2 Access: 3 Three Boys: This was our last stop of the three days, and a lot of a let-down as someone had very recently used this stone as a toilet and left a great deal of white toilet paper around it. Yeuk! I think Gordon and/or Dave may have reported this to the authorities to clear up. After this, we walked steadily back to the car park, took a few final photographs of the group altogether, using Janet and Gordon’s camera on my tripod on a timed setting. Then Andy, Dave, Andrew and myself headed back to Princetown to look inside the Visitor Centre.

SandyG visited on 7th Jul 2016 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 5 Access: 3 Car parking is available at SX 66205 86548. From here head SSW across open moorland to the stone rows.

Three Boys
Three Boys submitted by thecaptain : Nearly 2 metres long, this fairly large, almost fallen stone was probably once a blocking stone at the southern end of Shovel Down row 6. Viewed looking northwest with a row 6 stone under the gorsebush (Vote or comment on this photo)
At 1.4 metres long, this fairly large, almost fallen flat stone faces across the line at the southern end of Shovel Down row 6 on Dartmoor and was probably once a blocking stone. The stone is the single survivor of what was originally three stones.

This stone is recorded as Pastscape Monument No. 443598, which tells us the other two stones were "believed to have taken for use as gateposts".

This stone also features on the Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks website - see their entry for the Three Boys Standing Stone. PDW also gives a link to the Devon & Dartmoor HER: MDV6180 (The Three Boys, Shovel Down). The site is also scheduled as part of Historic England List Entry No. 1017874(The North Teign coaxial field system (western part) and associated later remains at Shovel Down, Stonetor Hill and Long Ridge).

For more information also see The Stone Rows of Great Britain's entry for Shoveldown 6, of which the Three Boys is the southern blocking stone.

Three Boys
Three Boys submitted by SandyG : Fallen blocking stone. The small stone below the slab probably forms part of the row, although it may have been a trig stone for the now fallen blocking stone (Scale 1m). (Vote or comment on this photo)

Three Boys
Three Boys submitted by AngieLake : The Three Boys standing stone, in its reclining position, according to our site page possibly once a blocking stone. Sadly, lots of discarded tissues spoiled the other angle of view. (Ten Tors Challenge the previous weekend, so maybe temporary loo!) ;-( 16th May. Left to right: Sandy G and his trusty ranging rod, Andrew Tate, Dave Parks (Prehistoric Dartmoor Walks). (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Three Boys
Three Boys submitted by Anne T : The stone from the south. Deliberately blocking out most of the toilet paper dumped behind the northern end of the stone. Yeuk!

Three Boys
Three Boys submitted by caradoc68 : Thie is only one stone, there are not three. this could be a blocking stone to a stone row.
