Kerry Hill
Kerry Hill submitted by PaulM : Kerry Hill stone circle - please see main Megalith Map site entry for more information. (Vote or comment on this photo)
A suspiciously well preserved centre-stone circle (which are common around these parts - see also The Hoarstones and Mitchell’s Fold) located on the slopes of kerry Hill overlooking mid-Wales to the west.

Eight roughly equi-spaced stones ring the squat, broad central stone. On the western arc of the circle a possible embankment can just be made out. Some of the stones are only upto 0.40m in height and are quite thin - with number of sheep around it is a surprise that some have survived (although there is erosion around one or two of the stones). Judging by the vague tyre tracks through the circle the farmer doesn’t always drive his quad bike around the monument.

Burl classifies this site as “good, worth a visit” but “uncertain status”. He records the circle as being 26.5 x 25.1 x 24.8m in size.

Please note that the site is on private land. A car park is located at SO14858630 to serve the ridgeway track and a path off the ridgeway runs close to the circle. The location of a number of barrows along this track is an interesting feature to note.

OS Explorer map 214 is vital to explore this area.

Kerry Hill submitted by w650marion : The size of the Circle and the slope of the land makes it difficult to photograph. The large stone in the centre of this picture is actually in the centre of the circle, which slopes away. (Vote or comment on this photo)

A strange feel to this circle, possibly due to the small stones on a large slope, or that much ploughing has taken place. It almost feels secondary to Shenon's Tump on the nearby summit. Or this could just be an illusion of the time of day.

I've visited this small oval shaped stone circle on the hill just above Kerry Forest, if the stones were big enough you could see the site from the road but of course these stones are so tiny.
The field in which it is set is full of sheep, cows and semi wild horses who can be quite inquisitive. Also, the circle is set on private land just off from the kerry ridgeway.
It's a very serene place and a place of pagan worship, although we're the only people who use it. It's also incredibly hard to find, unless you are looking for it otherwise you're likely to just walk over it!
