Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Kent
This lost site is a very old well with a long haunting tradition suggests of the Blue Lady or the ghost of Romney Codd. She haunts the cliff path along Old Stairs Walk to Kingsdown House grounds, looking for her lover, stopping at the Blue Well to drink! She has variously seen as a Druid Priestess, Juno, the daughter of Mithras, or Freya's daughter or even a nun! All suggest that the spring itself may once have been of significance! One legends tells that her lover was murdered by her father. A glimpse of her is said to be good luck for the village. One occasion in 1860 resulted in one of the finest fishing years. She is still seen at occasions although Kingsdown House has now been demolished, and a holiday camp has been erected on its land. The spring was tapped to supply water for the house but the brick conduit tunnels are said still to exist.
