Meini Gwyr submitted by PaulM : Meini Gwyr embanked stone circle near Glandy Cross, Carmarthenshire(SN14172658) Two remaining stones of Meini Gwyr once a spectacular circle (part of the Glandy Cross monument complex). Sketched by William Stukely in the 18th century as being one of the three main 'gorsedds' of Britain along with Boscawen-Un and the Merry Maidens in Cornwall. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Henge in Carmarthenshire (Sir Caerfyrddin)

"The embanked, sub-circular enclosure at Meini Gwyr measures c.20-22m in diameter, having a NW facing entrance. An excavation in 1938 showed that two extant stones were the survivors of 19 stones that originally ringed the interior of the earthwork. The entrance was lined by a 'palisade' of lesser stones, whilst e.19th century reports speak of two avenues of stones approaching the enclosure."

Access to the stones is through a gate from the road (see comments below).

Meini Gwyr submitted by Robc : Embanked Stone circle at Efailwen. Only 2 of the original 17 stones survive. The embankment is only just visible. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by sem : One of the two stones still standing that formed a burial chamber. Many fallen ones litter the field and hedges, showing the site to have been very substantial. SN140266 (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by PERKYPUFFIN : Another picture of the taller of the two stones. The face of Meini Gwyr is looking directly to the top of Foel Cwmcerwyn, the highest peak of the Preselis. A tree obstructs the view but the peak is above the chimney pots of the house across the next field. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by PERKYPUFFIN : Meini Gwyn means 'Stone Man' and I propose that it is named after this tallest stone. The face of a man looking to the horizon is depicted on this stone. Stand behind the stone and you will see that the 'Man' is looking directly to the top of Foel Cwmcerwyn, the highest peak of the Preselis. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Meini Gwyr submitted by TheDuke : This huge plough damaged stone is one of the many stones that look very out of place in the area,it is sitting underneath tree in the same field as the circle. Could it have been a capstone, part of the circle or a single outlier?

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by TheDuke : Possible remains of a burial chamber located in the clay bank of the field next to the Meini Gwyr stone circle. The stone in the foreground looks very much like a capstone with the others as possible supports.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by TheDuke : The remaining two stones of Meini Gwyr stone Circle. Part of a collection known as the Glandy cross complex which could also consist of Carn Besi ( a cairn circle), a series of standing stones and a ruined burial chamber ( see other photos). There are also many other stones within the circle area and the hedgerows which look like they could be associated with this complex. Also in the field direct...

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : Meini Gwyr, This would once have been a truly wonderful embanked stone circle.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : Meini Gwyr, As well as these two standing stones the embankment is very clear on site.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : The remaining standing stones of Meini Gwyr embanked stone circle.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : Meini Gwyr, There's only two stones of the circle left standing, But there's some very stone circle looking stones in the wall right near the circle though.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : The two remaining stones of Meini Gwyr embanked Stone Circle.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : Meini Gwyr, How could anyone destroy something that would have so beautiful as this Embanked stone circle with all it's stones?

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by Bladup : Meini Gwyr, This would have once been one of the greatest Embanked stone circles.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by paulcall : An artists impression of the embanked stone circle as it may have looked. Photograph of the on-site information board.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by paulcall : It is such a shame that only 2 stones remain of what would have been a lovely monument in its original state.

Meini Gwyr
Meini Gwyr submitted by enkidu41 : SN 1416 2659 This was originally a 60' diameter henge circle of 17 stones of which only these two survive. The stones were set in a bank 120' across.
