Download from camcorder film of inauguration level on Dunadd fort, showing: basin [foreground]; rock with footprint and boar carving [left]; and long rock with natural seat at right-angles to it [rear].

Another view of Dunadd fort's well. I remember reading that the inauguration stone on the higher level was still in use in the 15th century, so maybe this well was restored several times over the centuries to provide a supply of water for the crowds who gathered for these ceremonies? (Taken in 2002, and pics are beginning to fade.)

Dunadd fort's well, if I remember correctly, was on the first level. I can't add this to 'Holy Wells', because I'm not sure of its status, but it must have been 'well'-used during sieges!

The rather imposing entrance to Dunadd fort, which I assumed was natural. It was the first 'port of call' on a visit to Kilmartin Glen in 2002.

Dunadd hill fort has a natural entrance which must have been quite easy to seal off and defend. Looking through it from the first level.

Its rather badly worn & therefore faint but this is the boar carving.

Rock cut bowl, possibly a cup or cup & ring mark that has been enlarged. The rock with the footprint, boar & inscription is above.

This is the approach to Dunadd from the main road.

The Clan Chiefs would bring a pouch of soil from their territory to Dunadd, place this in the foot mark put their foot on top and swear allegience to the High King of Scots with their foot on their native heath. Thus saving the King the bother of travelling round all of them. If you look on the bottom right hand corner you can see the ogham script.

Well worth the short climb - beautiful 360 degree views of argyll and isles from top. Three other carvings within a metre are a boar, an inscription in ogham and a rock cut basin
