Raich Stone Circle submitted by cosmic : Raich Stone Circle at NJ618436 in Aberdeenshire now appears as little more than a pile of stones in the middle of a field. The SE corner does have an upright about four feet high - well waxed from being rubbed by sheep but for the rest I suspect some rogue stones have been tipped on to whatever was here. Raich Stone Circle at NJ618436 in Aberdeenshire now appears as little more than a pile of stones in the middle of a field. It is small - about 4 metres by 3. Note: Wind Farm proposed close to Raich Stone Circle, in an area of landscape significance, and the Meg P is quoted in the environment statement for the planning application, which is interesting.

Oh dear - we (or Cosmic to be more exact) have been quoted in the planning application environmental statement. "Raich Stone Circle at NJ618436 in Aberdeenshire now appears as little more than a pile of stones in the middle of a field. Source: http://www.megalithic.co.uk" See page 28 of the PDF here:

http://www.ukplanning.com/aberdeenshire/doc/Other-9096552.pdf?extension=.pdf&id=9096552&location=VOLUME7&contentType=application/pdf&pageCount=42

Anyone objecting to the application might like to point out they are relying on a sentence from an amateur web site rather than an proper opinion from Historic Scotland - we won't be offended, honest!

Planning application

Hello, we are wondering whether yourself or some of your members would be interested in supporting us by making an objection to the above application for 2 wind turbines, objections have to be made before 29th September. Previous objections etc. can be read online at the above link.

We are not against wind turbines, indeed we can see 20 of them from our living room window and will also have another one (which we did not object to) about 1 km to our left.

Our main objections to these turbines are that they are in an area of landscape significance

They will be highly visible from the Raich standing stones - pooh poohed by the developers, they are also discounting the fact that both Glendronach Distillery and Boynsmill House are listed buildings.

The farmers are going to be renting the field out to the developers - MacWind (Mac Mackie son of Sir Maitland Mackie) and MF...

Hi, you could also ask FOGS for some support, they were very helpful when I asked about a site in their area and are almost on the doorstep. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~stones/whoweare/index.html
and John Mackintyre (SP?) of Scottish Pagans doesn't mince his words http://www.scottishpf.org/contact.html

Thank you very much for that reply Runernage, will certainly give them a try.

Will also mention a proposed turbine at Yonder Bognie as well!

        You're very welcome :-)
Just thought, Andy Sweet is in that general area and very much on the ball with local issues, could be an idea to contact him, too. http://www.megalithic.co.uk/user.php?op=userinfo&uname=BigSweetie

Glad it's been of some help Meg and here's wishing the best of luck for a good outcome. I need to go to specsavers too, I never even noticed!
I got a new keyboard a few weeks ago and since then I can't spell anything right, you're in very good company! Very Best, Rune.
