Dorje Dolmen Thamshing
Dorje Dolmen Thamshing submitted by KaiHofmann : Bhumthang Dolmen. Site in Bhutan (Vote or comment on this photo)
Michael Hauser a german ethnologist and expierienced Bhutan guide discovered in the early 1990s a Dolmen in Bhumthang close to the Thamshing monastery at the opposite side of the Kurjey Lhakhang (monastery) and the Bumthang Chu (river). It seems to be one of several remains of an unknown neolithic culture in Bhutan.

In the Bumthang area could be found more unknown evidences like cup-marked stones of an ancient culture. The Dolmen site has been threatened by building operations to rebuild (usage of stones) the burnt Kenchogsum temple besides the Thamshing monastery. However thanks to Michael's efforts the King of Bhutan has directly intervened to save the site.

The King of Bhutan intervenes to save dolmen by Andy B on Monday, 30 April 2012
(User Info | Send a Message)
Michael Hauser writes: Hi friends, good news from Bhutan. Yesterday [26th April] the King of Bhutan visited the site of the dolmen. It was just about to be bulldozed. On 25th of April I had put my last hope on Dasho Karma Ura, Minister for Gross National Happiness and President of the Centre for Bhutan Studies.

He at once informed the Home Minister, who informed the King, who stayed in Bumthang on that precise day. Now the dolmen is going to be saved for the next 1400 years. All good news. Michael
