Stone Ships, also called Ship Settings, were an early burial custom in Scandinavia, Northern Germany and the Baltic states. The grave was surrounded by slabs or stones in the shape of a ship. They were erected from 1000 BC to 1000 AD. Stone Ships are of varying sizes The largest known is the mostly destroyed Jelling Stone Ship in Denmark, which was at least 170 m long; the smallest are a few meters long with head-size slabs. The illusion of being ships has often been reinforced by larger stones at the bow and stern. - It has been suggested that the Stone Ships developed out of the desire to equip the dead chieftain with everything he needed for the last journey.

Where might aerial photos of this site be found? I'm trying to confirm that this was a spot I visited two years ago but I'm not sure. There was a small thicket of trees very close to the site.

If anyone can help with aerial shots, please email
rameeks01@yahoo.com

Many thanks.
