Unfortunately there was fog during my visit. However, it was still possible to take good photos, as the facility is simply overwhelmingly large for its time in Denmark.

"Presumably it was built by King Harald Blåtand around 980 AD. as part of his collection of the Danish Empire. The site is structured strictly geometric. The circular stucture has a diameter of 120 m and entrance gates in all four corners of it. Two paved streets connect the gates and divide the castle square into quarters. In each section is a tub of four long houses. In some of the houses there has been housing, while in others traces of craftsmanship have been found. Still others have probably been stables or warehouse buildings. Lighthouse only worked for a short number of years before it burned down - perhaps in connection with a hostile attack. The castle was never rebuilt. Prior to the excavation in 1950-63, Fyrkat was pretty much devastated by plowing. The entire structure, as it appears today, is therefore a reconstruction. The post holes from the houses are now filled with concrete to give an impression of the geometry of the plant. In front of the castle is one of the Viking Age houses reconstructed in full size."
