Reconstructed Chamered Tomb in Lower Saxony

Neolithic chambered tomb found in 1907 in Anderlingen, which was originally covered by a 25 meter diameter tumulus and surrounded by kerbstones. The site was heavily damaged when farmers tried to salvage the material before the authorities put a stop to it. The dolmen is now set up next to the Niedersächsischen Landesmuseums Hannover, in the Maschpark. The neighbouring musuem has the "Anderlingen Bildstein" with carvings of three human figures, which formed the end of the tomb.

An intriguing slab with 3 Anthropomorphic figures is inside the museum for safekeeping. The chambered tomb was taken away from its original location about 100 Km North West to the museum where it has been displayed on and off for the last 2 generations. (Vote or comment on this photo)

The information board next to the reconstructed dolmen reads...

Here follows a rough translation...
The dolmen was discovered in the winter 1907/1908. It was under the largest of three tumuli, which were destroyed by work to extract sand.

The tumulus originally had a diameter of 25 m and a height of more than 2 m, surrounded it by a stone kerb. A 2.0 x 0.7 m dolmen constructed from granite slabs was found in the south-east part of the mound. Only a few bone remains have survived from the original burial (approximately 3400 years old). A bronze dagger, a brooch and a bronze axe were also found within the dolmen.

It was not only the dolmen that distinguished the buried as an important person. The most significant characteristic of this grave is its southern end-stone, which has three anthropomorphic figures carved into its inner face. This representational rock art in the Scandinavian style is the only one in Germany. The Anderlinger stone aroused a lot of attention in the professional world - especially as it was found only weeks after the location and early suspicions that the stone had been later manipulated could never be eliminated.

The dolmen is reconstructed with the original stones. The original picture stone is in the collection of the prehistory department of the federal state museum, Hanover.

Apologies if I haven't got the sense quite right.
