Grøtte Standing Stone
Grøtte Standing Stone submitted by kenntha88 : The repair work on the stone is easy to see, good that someone took the responsibility to repair this beautiful stone. (Vote or comment on this photo)
This standing stone has been removed in later years, the original placement has been lost, but today it is placed outside the church of Grøtte in Orkdal district, in a small garden outside the churchyard.

The ancient farm believed to have been here in the iron age is mentioned in the nordic sagas. The original name is Gryting, and some persons in the sagas is mentioned to be from this district.

In later years a memory sign in bronze have been placed at the foot of the stone, making the stone look like a modern memory stone, but it is a standing stone from the iron age. The plate mention the kings Harald fairhair and Olav Haraldsson.

The stone is about 4 metres tall, 1 metre wide at the base and ends in a sharp point on the top. It has previously broken in two parts, but have later been repaired.
