Hillfort in Hjørring

Danish registry 100701-5

"Aggersborg by the Limfjord is the largest of Denmark's so-called "slave castles" from the Viking Age. The circular plant has a diameter of 240 m. The ring wall surrounding the castle square is almost a kilometer long. Within the castle have been a whole 12 building carriages with four large long houses in each, ie. 48 houses in total. Aggersborg has thus been far larger than both Trelleborg and Fyrkat. Common to the Viking castles is the strictly geometric structure with a cruciform midway oriented exactly to the corners of the world. The current structure is a reconstruction and merely marks where the original and much higher structure has gone. Aggersborg is probably listed at about the same time as Trelleborg and Fyrkat, around the year 980."

There is a parking lot nearby of reasonable size. 20m North of the fortess and east of the church is a smal building that contains a small exhibition (and toilets).
