This Iron Age Celtic chieftain tomb dating to about 500 BCE was excavated in 1990 after aerial photography revealed interesting patterns.

Among other items, a life size limestone statue of a warrior with an unusual helmet was found inside. Copies of the statue and documentation are in the nearby Glauburg museum. There are indications the original is the Frankfurt Museum.
The Tumulus is surounded by ditches which may have been processional paths. The statues were found buried in the ditch. The henge like ditches lead on to make comparisons with Tara in Ireland.

Glauberg Fürstengrabhügel
Glauberg Fürstengrabhügel submitted by Jansold : Glauberg is a Celtic oppidum consisting of a fortified settlement and several burial mounds. There are banks and ditches, and the reconstruction of the burial mound with what is known as the “processional way” dating from the 5th century BC The purpose of the 16 postholes associated with the mound and enclosure is unknown, but they were built later than the burial mounds. In close proximity to the tumulus, the new museum "Keltenwelt am Glauberg" opened in 2011. It contains the major finds, that previously had been presented in Glauberg Museum and in Frankfurt a.M.

The Celtic statue of a Celtic warrior found at Glauberg is not made of limestone. It is made of the local pink sandstone.
