The Amelungsburg is a hillfort in Dörentrup (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) and dates from the Pre-Roman Iron Age (ca. 250 BC).
The enclosure is situated on a hill, which is also called Amelungsburg. It is assumed that it was used at the same time as the nearby Piepenkopf hillfort, which is situated on Kleeberg hill. It is possible, that both hillforts formed a disconnected fortification system.
Today, the central ramparts of Amelungsburg hillfort, which are located at the top of the hill, are not visible anymore. However, the remains of a rampart and ditch are preserved at the foot of the hill. This part of the fortification was thought to control the entrance to the path leading to the central enclosure at the hill top.
