Autun visited on 25th Sep 2021 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 5 Situated a two minute walk from a LIDL car park, this site is surprisingly pleasant. Totally surrounded by recent developments, this site is an oasis of trees and vegetation in Achim. 200 m from a wilderness park.
The round barrow at Achim-Baden is situated immediately west of a street named "Im weißen Berge".
In spite of several building measures the barrow is rather well preserved.
The barrow is thought to have been built at some point between the late neolithic and the older bronze age, perhaps between 2.500 and 1.500 BC.
The location of a second specimen in the barrow's neighbourhood is known, but due to building activities it was destroyed in 1954.
Among the finds were a fragment of an iron aged urn, indicating a later reuse of this barrow, as well as a pearl of glass.
