Ancient Temple in Sri Lanka
An amazing cluster of about 50 granite pillars, situated about 200 metres west of important Menik Vehera Stupa, just by the main road. Such structures are more common in central region of Sri Lanka and here on south it is rather rare.
The origin of this site is not quite clear, but according to the inscription on the secluded stone pillar standing close by, it can be part of the monastic complex from the 1st or 2nd century. The name refers to place appearance itself, first part of the word Galkanumandiya means pillars in Sinhalese language.
