The Moorfundplatz Unerlübbe is located in Hille-Unterlübbe (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). The site dates from the Iron Age (3rd-2nd century BC) and consisted of wooden structures in the Hilferdingser moor.
The site was discovered in 1916 and was partially excavated in 1938/1939. Because most of the finds were lost, a second excavation took place in 1985/1986. A large number of wooden timber posts and timber planks was discovered. It is assumed that they had formed ancient trackways and platforms, that enabled the access to this part of the moor.
Moreover, the bones of several skeletons of humans and animals were found.
The current interpretation of the finds is that site was used as sacrifical place. Therefore, Moorfundplatz Unerlübbe is a rare example of an Iron Age sanctuary in North Rhine-Westphalia.
