In Harpstedt this "Sub-Stone" shows several concentric circles known as symbols for the sun. The stone is located directly in front of the entrance of the Amtshof Harpstedt.

Due to the circumstances of the find, which have not been fully clarified, the 'Sonnenstein von Harpstedt' is controversial. It was probably thought that it is a medieval 'target' for archery and was set up at the house of the local rifle club ('Schützenverein') of Harpstedt. After the discovery of the Sunstone of Beckstedt (which is well documented), this sunstone aroused the interest of research and archaeologists. It is assumed that it is of Neolithic / Bronze Age origin. Unlike the Sunstone of Beckstedt, this sunstone is the original one and not a reconstruction.

Coordinates checked and unfortunately they are incorrect here. New coordinates:
E8.59105/N52.90923. The stone is located directly in front of the entrance of the 'Amtshof Harpstedt'

Hello CB, thanks very much for the two corrections. I have updated both pages. Do you know if this site is prehistoric? If not then the site type 'Sculptured Stone' may be more appropriate?

Unlike the similar stone from Beckstedt which might possibly be of prehistoric origin judging from the way the incisions are executed the Harpstedt stone is really highly questionable. I have never seen a genuine bronze age carving from Northern Europe showing any similarity to the way this incisions look.

Agree with that. I also looked for different types of stones with the same topic. It is true that there are often concentric circles as well. But I couldn't find anything like the ones in Harpstedt or Beckstedt. I think a few months ago I commented on a stone here very close to Beckstedt one from the way the circles are made. I just don't remember correctly. I think it was from the British Isles.
