The Schweizerisches Nationalmuseum (National Museum Zurich) has an excellent collection of objects dating from early prehistoric times. Megalithic89 writes: Recently they had an exhibition of statue menhirs: Humans, carved in stone. The exhibition has now closed but you can still tour the virtual version. A must see, perfectly filmed. More details in the comments on our page.

They have a permanant exhibition - Archaeology in Switzerland:

Lake dwellers, Celts, Romans, Alamanni: the names are familiar to us all. The exhibition allows visitors to view these people’s archaeological remains and contemplate their accomplishments and value systems. The approximately 1,400 items on display take visitors on a journey through the most important stages in human history. The exhibition also explores the domestication of animals and plants in the area of present-day Switzerland.

The exhibition – which is located in the new wing of the museum – features early figurative representations, masterpieces by the first goldsmiths, hunting tools made of stone, wood and bone, and everyday objects dating back to prehistoric times – all presented in a striking scenographic setting.

Animated projections and interactive research stations make the exhibition come alive and invite both children and adults to embark on a fascinating trip into the past.

The museum is located immediately to the north of Zurich main train station (Hauptbahnhof).

Humans, carved in stone stelae exhibition at Schweizerisches Nationalmuseum by Megalithic89 on Saturday, 09 October 2021
(User Info | Send a Message)
I wish to draw your attention to the latest exhibition:
Humans, carved in stone.
May be visited from 17.9.2021 to 16.01.2022:

6,000 years ago, people in Europe started erecting large stone sculptures. These sculptures were in the shape of women and men with faces and arms, hairstyles and even tattoos. They also carried or wore highly desirable items such as weapons, jewellery or clothing that depicted the innovations of their time. But the stelae were also symbols of power and status, and were used for ancestor worship and rituals. These likenesses were created in an age when people were increasingly engaging in agriculture and animal husbandry, coming together in village communities and beginning to use metal. The temporary exhibition in the National Museum Zurich’s extension wing brings together stelae from a number of European countries, including new finds from the cantons of Zurich and Valais, and offers a unique insight into the world of people in the Neolithic period.
