Ancient Village or Settlement in Nidwalden

In 2011, Unesco recognised “Prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps” as World Culture Heritage.

Kehrsiten is one of the 56 pile dwellings sites in Switzerland, out of 111 of the approximately 1000 known sites in six countries (Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, Slovenia, Austria) .

It was inhabited between 4000 to 3000 BC.

The "pile dwellings" are prehistoric settlement remains in lakes and moors around the Alps. The prehistoric settlement remains provide a vivid insight into the formation and development of early agricultural societies around the Alps.
