Klosterforst Belm Schalenstein submitted by Martin_L : Aerial view. Erratic boulder with 13 cup-marks on top. Oriented appr. East-West. It seems to be deeply rooted and measures 1,8m by 1,20m at a visible height of 0,9m. July 2010 (Vote or comment on this photo)
Erratic boulder with 13 cup-marks on top. It seems to be deeply rooted and measures 1,8m by 1,20m at a visible height of 0,9m.

The surface and the cup-marks are weathered, but as some are very deep they are comparatively well visible. Nevertheless additional lighting is useful to detect all of the cup-marks. It is hard to decide if the erratic is in natural position (as the ice age left it) or if this was altered.
Dating: cup-marks in this areas seem to date back to early bronze age and/or late neolithic age.
The site is not signposted. It is marked on some topographic maps with an “erratic” symbol.
