Rock Art in Møre og Romsdal

This rock art site is located on the south part of a almost vertical cliff overlooking a small bay to the south. The rock face is around 15 metres in height and very steep. The rock art is on the lower part of the cliff, only a few metres from the ground. To get to the rock art panels visitors have to park at a small parking lot with a information sign and then walk around 400 metres to the site.

The rock art site is divided in two rock art panels. One part to the west consists of a large whale figure and above it a small boat and a small circle, further to the east is another panel consisting of two large whale figures, two smaller whale figures, a triangle shaped figure, one bird and another strange square figure with a pattern inside almost resembling a spider. This picture can be quite difficult to interpret.
The largest whale figures are around 2 metres in length while the smaller are around 30-40cm. When I visited the site the figures were drawn up with white chalk, making them easy to see.

The rock art have been dated to be from the stone age, around 3000BC, based on how high it would be from the sea level in that period. The figures with large animal carvings are also typical for the "hunter-gatherer" period of rock art from the stone age.

Close to the rock art, just a few metres away from the panels to the south is three smaller burial cairns. These cairns are small, only around 5 metres wide and around 0,5 metres in height and completely overgrown and difficult to see. They are believed to be from around 200AD.
