Burial Chambers or Dolmens in Algeria

Area with an astonishing number of tombs, about 3000, situated on a plateau between Djebel Thaya (1200 m) and Djebel Debar (1030 m). It contains dolmens and a lot of rock cut out tombs dating back to Late Neolithic/Bronze Age.
This ensemble is arranged over a length of approximately 2 km on the edge of a cliff.
The megaliths of Roknia consist mainly of dolmens, forming a prehistoric necropolis.
During Bourguignat's excavations in 1868, bones, pottery and jewelry were found there, in a form reminiscent of the megalithic culture of Atlantic Europe.
He examined and described 28 dolmens in which the remains of 48 individuals and 45 different types of pottery were found.

Jules René Bourguignat (1829 -1892) was a French malacologist, a scientist who studied mollusks.
