Kastelberg Oppidium

Ideal for observing invading Germans durind the Iron Age. Later probably also re-used by Romans as there is a Rue Des Romains just below in the village. Promontory Fort in Haut Rhin


Iron Age Fort, later re-used by Romans overlooking the strategic rhine valley, so useful for spotting invading germans. Park in town and follow foot path to top of Kastelber Mountain. There is a natural rock outcrop with a plateau behind it. Nothing other than lose stones are visible. 588 Meters altitude.
