Ancient Temple in Bern

This remarkable Roman temple stands on the historic part of the Jäissberg Hill. It can be assumed that it was built on top of a prehistoric (Celtic) construction. Evidences of previous earthworks are particularly visible in the western part (for Keltenwall out). The name Petinesca has also been given to the "Gate of Petinesca", on the outskirts of Studen (Canton Bern). Since the 17th century, the Roman remains in Studen have been associated with "Petinesca", a place figured on the "Tabula Peutingeriana" (late Roman Road) and mentioned in the "Itinerarium Antonini".
