Temple in Bas Rhin

Temple of Vosegus (after which Vosges Mountains are named), Hecate, Teutates, Cernunnos (God of Stags) and Smertios with ancient sacred well, later re-used by Romans with temple built to Mercury. The top altar is so spectacular, the ancient druids most have felt as if the gods hemselves placed it there for the purpose of worship. The Romans thought bettter than to interfere during their rule. In 19th Century a Museum in the shape of a Roman temple was built there, but abandonned when artifacts were transfered to Strasbourg. The stelles found found here have been taken to the Strasbourg Museum and replaced by copies. The position is given for the very top altar at the North East end of the saddleback mountain. Address: D393/D392, 67130 You should park on the ridge below at the hotels and climb from there. You can't rely on the hiking maps, but the paths are well marked-

Donon Temples
Donon Temples submitted by AlexHunger : Here is a general view of the entire Donon temple area as seen as from the very top of the altar stone at 1009 Meter altitude at the North East end. The semi circular temple of steles is nearly below the antenna, which is also a good navigation marker for the long climb. One of the signs claims there was an ancient fortification wall around the entire site, though this is now nearly invisible on ...
