Harald_Platta visited on 10th Aug 2018 - their rating: Cond: 1 Amb: 3 Access: 5 I had visited the still opened museum when I was a child and a teenager. The presentation of the finds always seemed to be a bit old fashioned, but as an interested person, I visited it several times.

The Fuhlrott-Museum was a natural history museum in Wuppertal (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). It was based on the collection of the Naturwissenschaftlicher Verein Wuppertal, which was founded in 1846. The museum was opened in 1892 by Johann Carl Fuhlrott. Fuhlrott was the first researcher to recognize that the bones found in the Neanderthal valley belonged to a prehistoric human, namely the Neanderthal.

The museum was closed to the public in 2008 because the city of Wuppertal had not enough money to support the museum anymore. Several parts of the collection have been given to other museums since then.

Although it seems not likely, speculations of a reopening of the museum have lingered.

I have chosen the Condition - rating "1" (and not "destroyed"). The museum is closed and large parts of the collection are lent to other museums. However, there is still hope that it might possibly re-open one day.
