Carving in Hordaland
At the entrance in the stone fence surrounding the churchyard and laying on top of the stone fence is a flat stone slab with cup marks. The cup marks have been dated to the bronze age and it is believed the stone was found when the churchyard was enlarged and the stone was found just under the soil.

The stone is almost square shaped, it is around 1,2 metres long and 1 metre wide. It is only around 5-10cm thick. After the stone was placed on the church wall a pole for a modern iron fence was put at the edge of the stone. The stone have 56 cup marks. Some of them are large (almost 5-10cm wide) and deep and very clear. When I visited the site some of the cup marks were filled with water and it made them even more visible.

56 is a powerful number associated with Aubrey Holes and eclipse prediction. It made the hairs on my neck stand up when I read this stone has 56 cup marks...

Interesting though the number seems not exactly determined. The official Norwegian database mentions both the number 52 and 56. Apart from this there are some grooves. Guess a more thorough examination (frottage or laser scan) may be needed to be more certain. Apart from this it is not in situ and quite likely only a fragment of a larger stone which has been fitted into square-shape in historic times. Hence carved parts may be lost. Cheers :)
