The Teufelsloch is one of the most iconic sites in the Ahr Valley. Already in the 19th century the unique rock formation above Altenahr was regarded as a tourist attraction. Several legends deal with the site. All involve the devil, which might possibly indicate a former use in Pre-Christian times.
The original Teufelsloch was destroyed during an earthquake in the 1930`s. The site has been recreated afterwards.
