The Archaeological Museum of Chiomonte, which opened in June 2004 documents the prehistory and early history of the site of "La Maddalena" from the late Neolithic period (last quarter of the fifth millennium BC) to the second Iron Age (fourth century BC).

The culture and life of the first inhabitants of this "land between the mountains" are illustrated through the display of artefacts found in the adjacent archaeological site. The exhibition is divided into chronological order, visitors embark on a journey into the everyday life of an Alpine settlement 6000 years ago through pottery, stone, traces of houses and tombs in the necropolis related late Neolithic, finishing by seeing a rich burial of the an Iron Age woman.

The materials in the collection refer to a single human community from the late Neolithic period (late fifth-fourth millennium BC), named the cultural area of the Western Alps Chassey from the name of the main places in which this Neolithic culture was identified and studied . The finds emerged during excavations conducted in construction work at Frejus in the years 1986-1992.
