Galgenhügel Schuir is an artificial mound in Essen (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). It is located in the city district Schuir, near the border to the city district Werden. Its remains are 1.15 m high and display a diameter of 9 m. In the past, it must have been taller.

In World War II it was used as a foxhole. The corresponding pit on its top is still visible today. The earliest known reference for the Galgenhügel Schuir is a map from the year 1582, where it is marked as Werdensches Gericht ("Court of Werden“). Therefore, at least in the Middle Ages it served as a court site. This is also indicated by the name ("Gallow Hill“).

It is unknown, when the mound was built and which purpose it had fulfilled initially. In this respect it is interesting to note, that the Dellberg, another artificial mound, lies just a few hundred meters away. Even though the functional role of the Dellberg is also not known, discovered potsherds suggest a connection to the Hallstatt Culture (about 8th to 6th century BC).

However, a possible functional interconnection of the two mounds remains speculative at the moment.
