Kaiserswerth Menhir
Kaiserswerth Menhir submitted by KaiHofmann : Kaiserswerth Menhir (Vote or comment on this photo)
The late neolithic or early bronze age menhir at Duesseldorf-Kaiserswerth is about 1,70 Meter long. It has been transferred a few meters from its original location.

The cult stone has some enigmatic scrape lines for unknown reasons.

The local tradition reports that the inhabitants of the medieval Kaiserswerth were in constant fear of the stone, so that the nearby St. Georg's Church was built especially for protection against this symbol of paganism.

It's also reported that condemned criminals were pushed towards the stone before their execution.

Dear Andreas, thanks for sending this interesting site. May you check the coordinates? Guess Kaiserswerth in fact is ~30km NE of the current coordinates. Thanks, Martin

    Dear Martin,

Thanks for your information. Indeed the current coordinates are wrong. Obviously I made a mistake. The right coordinates seem to be 51.29895 and 6.742867.
Do you know how to do a correction of my pseudo-infos at the page?

    Thanks a lot,
    Andreas

      Dear Martin,

again thanks a lot! Maybe the infos are a little bit useful. However my photos in principle are disastrous- probably damned by the devil?!

      Prosit

Hi

Is it easy to find? I was in Kaisersworth 2 years ago and didn't see it, there again in a fortnight so tips on finding it would be good.

Maddy

    Hi Maddy,

it's curious, nobody in Düsseldorf seems to know the menhir.
But it's rather easy to find. It's situated close to the crossing of two streets:
Alte Landstraße and Zeppenheimer Weg. (by guess 1 mile east of the Kaiserpfalz)

    Good luck at your search,
    Andreas
