Heiligtum Ossum
Heiligtum Ossum submitted by Creative Commons : THe Heiligtum Ossum was a Gallo/Germanic-Roman temple in Meerbusch (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany). The replica of one of the discovered votive altars is shown near the original site. By Tetris L (Own work) [GFDL or CC BY-SA 3.0], via Wikimedia Commons (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Heiligtum Ossum is assumed to have been a Roman-style temple built most likely by the Germanic tribe of the Ubii in Meerbusch-Ossum (North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany).

A group of Gallo/Germanic-Roman votive stones was found near Gripswald castle in 1863 (coordinates: ca. 51.302066, 6.645126). Six of the stones are dedicated to Matronae Octocannae and one to Mercurius Arvernus. It is assumed that they date from the late 2nd century AD or early 3rd century AD. They share certain similarities with the stones from the Matronenheiligtum Nettersheim in Blankenheim.

The votive stones were found in the excavated ruins of a small house of unknown function. The building is most likely not the original temple. It has been speculated that the votive stones have been hidden in this place.

The original stones are displayed in the Rheinisches Landemuseum in Bonn. A replica of the votive stone No.1 can be seen near the original site in front of St. Pankratius church (see coordinates at the top of the page).
